Have you been curious to know what it’s like to live in one of our communities? Well we asked one of our members in Barcelona just that! Let’s take a glimpse of what life at Starcity looks like through Laura’s eyes.
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself, where are you from and how did you end up living in Starcity Barcelona?
My name is Laura Exposito and I am from the North of Spain (Cantabria and Asturias). I always say that my heart is divided and that I love both regions equally. Although my house is located at a small seatown beach called Isla.
I am 26 years old and I consider myself a social butterfly, adventurous, creative and with a tons of curiosity. I love to travel and to discover new cultures and live unique experiences. I’ve lived in Barcelona for a year and half and I discovered Starcity through a friend.
When I first came into her apartment – I was like wow. I’ve lived away from my hometown for many years and I had never lived at a building that was so well design and in such a good location and with such an innovative way of living.
What do you do for a living? What brought you to Barcelona?
I am currently studying a masters in e-commerce and digital marketing at University of Barcelona. About a year and a half ago I moved from Madrid to Barcelona because of a job offer. I worked on the development of Karl Lagerfeld in Spain, a fashion brand, sector that I am passionate about.
What’s your favourite part of the city? And what’s your favourite bar or restaurant next to our building in Calle Sardenya?
My favorite part of the city is El Born because it feels odd and it enables me to travel to other countries without leaving the city. When I need some clarity I take a walk to El Born and I let it’s small streets inspire me. Some of the places that I love are Casa Bonay, Ocaña, Vegan Junk Food Bar, Parking Pizza and Mescladis.
Coliving is a new way of living that is slowly making its way in Spain. Did you know about coliving before living at Starcity? How did you find out about us?
I’ve lived at Starcity for about five months but it has not been my first experience with coliving. I spent some time living in San Diego, California where I first discovered about coliving and we had beautiful communal spaces. However, it wasn’t located in such a central area. In my opinion I love the fact that units are developed with such a design approach and that events and communal spaces are offered to members. It offers a proposal that very few places can offer. I am a big believer in the future of Starcity and I can tell that they’ve thought hard in order to offer the best possible quality of living to their residents. Everything is thought of and this has a huge impact on the life of the people.
Now that you have discovered this new way of living, what’s your favorite part about living at Starcity?
The most beautiful part of living at Starcity is that I get to know many people of different profiles and backgrounds. I also love that I have access to great communal spaces such as the coworking or the terrace where I can enjoy great conversations with people.
Another amazing thing about Stracity is the people that work at the company are genuinely good people who take care of us to make us feel like we live in a community. I am also very happy with the mobile app because it helps the community be more connected and it offers an opportunity for us to stay up to date with what is happening.
How’s your day to day? Do you use the communal spaces that we offer?
I love the coworking space at the building and I would call my second house. I go downstairs every morning to work because I feel extremely comfortable. It is large and offers a diverse set of spaces for us to sit. It feels authentic and special. I also love the rooftop. Although, I do not go everyday I try to go often to get some fresh air, drink a cup of tea or wine, eat and share some beautiful time with the rest of the members at the building.
Covid has had a major impact on how we socialize. Do you feel that your sense of belonging has increased since living at Starcity?
For me it’s extremely important to live in a building where I feel a sense of belonging and I identify myself with the design. The truth is that my experience here has been beautiful and although we have been spending a lot of time at home due to Covid it has been a lot easier to live with due to the environment and I can say that I love where I live. Everyone who lives in the building is from other Spanish regions or even from abroad and it provides an amazing opportunity to discover other cultures and meet new people from different backgrounds. Everyone brings different cultures and ways of life and I can say that it has had a huge impact on my personal growth. I can definitely say having the opportunity to meet so many diverse people without having to live my home is the best of this experience and something unique during the current challenging times that we are living.
You’ve been very active within our community, out of all events that you have participated in which ones have you enjoyed the most?
I’ve participated in almost all the events that you have organized. I’ve honestly enjoyed all of them and can’t pick one but say that they have enabled me to create new friendships within people at the community
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us, Laura!
