Venice is known for its sandy beaches, sparkling surf, and laid-back, bohemian vibe. But even the freest free spirit has to eat. Luckily, Starcity’s coliving space is a quick walk, drive, or bike ride away from some truly delicious food. Whether you’re looking for ultra decadent stuffed french toast or the hippest acai bowl in the city, we’ve got you covered. Flake calls itself a snack shop, but it might be more accurate to call it a cereal lover’s paradise. The cozy joint specializes in bowlfuls of granola, Fruit Loops, and Lucky Charms, dressed up with toppings like Nutella and fresh seasonal berries. If you prefer heartier fare, try one of Flake’s breakfast burritos or stuffed sandwiches. Diners rave about the Super-Crojo, a croissant loaded with scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, and smoked gouda, and dressed with the restaurant’s own secret sauce.

Bread & Porridge

2315 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90403

With a name like “Bread & Porridge,” you can expect the breakfast to be top-notch. This Santa Monica staple serves up cozy classics like Denver omelets and stuffed french toast, alongside a dizzying array of pancakes. Can’t decide between strawberry or pecan? Take a deep breath and order the strawberry-pecan cakes. For a couple extra bucks, you can even add on a cute little bottle of pure maple syrup–a handy addition to the bag of any serious bruncher.

Gjelina is a bit more of a splurge than your typical brunch spot, but it’s worth it. There’s a reason for the constant line outside this elegant Abbot Kinney mainstay. Get cozy with a bowlful of hearty seven grain porridge dotted with stone fruit, or dig into soft scrambled eggs with squash blossom. If you’re feeling extra indulgent, spring for the duck confit potato hash – it comes with a sunny side up duck egg on top.

26 Beach Restaurant

3100 Washington Blvd, Venice, CA 90292

Sun, smoothies, and stuffed french toast: what more could you ask for? 26 Beach Restaurant made its name on inventive burgers – this is the place that pioneered the California roll burger, after all – but its brunch menu offers plenty of imaginative options too. Your sweet tooth will be satisfied with the s’mores french toast, filled with marshmallow fluff and Nutella and crowned with strawberries and whipped cream. If you’re looking for something savory, try the Baby Backs & Eggs. Yes, 26 Beach offers half-racks of ribs for breakfast.

Sitting in Great White feels like hanging out in your coolest friend’s kitchen. This casual cafe specializes in fresh Californian cuisine, like housemade granola and classic avocado toast with poached eggs. Don’t sleep on the blue smoothie bowl, either – not only is it tasty, but with a brilliant blue color and edible flowers, it’s likely to be the prettiest thing you eat all week.

The Cow’s End

34 Washington Blvd, Venice, CA 90292

Maybe your typical breakfast is just the accompaniment to the perfect cup of coffee. If so, the Cow’s End has you covered. They can whip up just about any coffee-based beverage, from individual slow pours to salted caramel almond lattes. Should you want some food to go with your caffeine, try one of their power breakfast bowls with acai, fruit, and granola. It’s the perfect accompaniment to their free refills.

Stepping into the French Market Cafe is like taking a mini vacation to Europe, thanks to the work of owner Agnes Martinez. She’s originally from the French Riviera, and wants her cafe to feel as authentic as possible. It’s the perfect stop for a lighter meal, whether you prefer soft boiled eggs with smoked salmon or a French jam crepe. Just don’t forget to grab a pain au chocolat for later.

Rose Cafe

220 Rose Ave, Venice, CA 90291

Rose Cafe is something of a local favorite; even the late, great Jonathan Gold called it an institution. Brunch here skews more savory than sweet. Expect to dig into biscuits with fried eggs and country gravy, a spicy chorizo scramble, or an heirloom tomato tartine. If you find yourself in need of an indulgent nibble, though, stop by the pastry case. It’s stacked high with freshly made croissants, breads, and other treats.
